December Club News & Competition Reports by Mr. Peter Byrne, Club PRO
December 19th 2009 - Club AGM
The Club AGM took place in the clubhouse on Sat 19th Dec . A well attended meeting re-elected the outgoing commitee . Mr Ger O Brien was proposed and seconded to join the committee . Club President Mr Ron Breen thanked all the Commitee for their efforts over the year and gave special thanks to our Inaugral and outgoing Captain Mr Tony Dempsey . A slightly shell-shocked Peter Byrne is the Captain for the coming year. Mr Byrne thanked eveyone for the great honour of being selected to follow the former member of Dail Eireann and sucessful manager of the Wexford Hurling Team as Captain . Though being a native of Arklow Peter has lived near the course for 20 years and has played most of his golf there over the years. He will also continue as PRO and try to find some new descriptions for the weather in the competiton reports ! Treasurer Mr Leo Gleeson had earlier presented the financial report showing account to be in the black as was expected . As this was our first year all were pleased with progress and the Commitee have promised more of the same for next year with hopefully more open competitions some matchplay and participation in inter club events .
On Sunday a Roll up Stableford took place . An enthusiastic member of the Club and a visiting golf society was out before first light inspecting the course by torchlight and gave his personal opinion that play could go ahead a view not nesessarily shared by everyone ! However play did get underway around 9 o clock and and despite the cold conditions a good turn-out enjoyed a competitive enough affair.
David Kennedy off 15 once again bombed around the course with great aplomb and came home with a most impressive 40 pts for 1st place. Brian Delaney (11) posted an excellent 37pts for 2nd spot and Michael O Brien (17) came home in 3 rd with 34 pts. New Captain Peter Byrne had his best competition round since the Summer and would like to again thank Secretary Charlie Logan for his invaluable tips on hitting driver and more consistent iron play .
Happy Christmas to all and a reminder that Ballymoney is open for membership and offers good value or money on an excellently maintained course .
